On 13 June 2017, NZX-listed Spark announced the acquisition of Ubiquity Software as part of the growth strategy for its big data analytics software and services business Qrious.

Murray & Co was engaged as financial advisor to Spark on the acquisition of Ubiquity Software and related intellectual property assets. Our role included tactical and valuation advice, financial due diligence support and assistance with negotiation of legal agreements.

Qrious is a big data analytics software and services provider launched in 2014 as a part of Spark Ventures. Qrious has over 1.2 billion data points flowing onto its platform including anonymised mobile location data, customer profiling data, census data and weather information. Qrious uses this data to offer products such as data powered marketing, location apps, business intelligence and advanced analytics.

Ubiquity is NZ’s only provider of end-to-end data-driven marketing automation solutions, through its owned software platform (Engage) and in-house marketing specialists. Ubiquity’s clients include leading NZ domestic corporates, local subsidiaries of multinational companies and Government entities.

Qrious’ goal is to grow by creating and owning digital software products that leverage advanced analytics. Qrious plans to enrich Ubiquity’s campaign services and the Engage marketing automation platform by embedding additional analytical products and features.
